The Artists

So PercussionSo Percussion makes a rare and wonderful breed of music that both compels instantly and offers vast rewards for engaged listening. In fact, So is one of the only outfits that can play at a major concert hall and with indie’s hippest artists within 24 hours.Composer/Performer Jason Treuting’s music emerges as a fresh and eclectic voice out of his work with some of the world’s great artists. As a member of the quartet So Percussion, he has collaborated with composers Steve Reich, David Lang, and Fred Frith, electronic Matmos and choreographer Eliot Feld. From his earliest experiences as a drummer in California, to percussion study in Japan and Bali, to mentorship in improvisation and composition at Eastman and Yale, Treuting’s music reflects a broad yet intensely personal synthesis of sounds and ideas. So Percussion’s music has been called “astonishing and entrancing” by Billboard, “brilliant” by the New York Times. The four members of So Percussion came together to give fresh voice to what co-founder Jason Treuting calls “funky contemporary music.” In their newest CD/DVD Amid the Noise the members of So experimented with glockenspiel, toy piano, vibraphones, bowed marimba, melodica, tuned and prepared pipes, metals, a wayward ethernet port, and all kinds of sound programming. The resulting idiosyncratic tone explorations were synchronized to Jenise Treuting’s haunting films of street scenes in Brooklyn and Kyoto.Click here to learn more about So Percussion.
