Our Sounds

We’ve been capturing amazing sounds and having conversations about trains, industry, and Southern Vermont. Check out below:

Interviews

Armed with a slick Airstream trailer and a couple of mics, Adam has been talking with people about trains. Here are some excerpts.

  • Gino worked at the Bellows Falls Rail-Yard for decades:
  • Norris works at the Green Mountain Railroad:
  • Ross remembers trains coming through his town as a child -

Our Music

Out in Newfane, we’ve been rehearsing, composing, and generally figuring out how this music will take shape. Here are some excerpts from that process:

  • We made a two octave instrument out of big fenceposts, and have placed them on Ahren’s giant structure. Here’s some stuff Jason thought up for that -
  • And here are some huge planks, also built on the structure-
  • Brattleboro’s Estey Organ factory has been one of the greatest finds in this residency. We borrowed a little children’s organ for this piece. It has two pedals that you pump to let the air flow-
  • In Bellows Falls, riders will step off the train, and into the Waypoint Center. Jenise Treuting has built a film installation, and this is some of the music that will be playing during it. -
  • On the train and bus rides, audience members will be given “music for trains” mp3 players to keep. On them are two pieces written by Josh and Eric to accompany the ride. They are roughly the length of the trip. This is “Northbound” -
