Music for Trains - a site specific performance inspired by the sights and sounds of Brattleboro and Bellows Falls

All Aboard!! The performance experience begins at 5:20 by boarding the Vermonter in Brattleboro and continues with concerts in Bellows Falls at 7PM and Brattleboro at 9PM.So Percussion, known for their funky contemporary music, will create an original new work Music for Trains. A multi-media performance event inspired by the sights and sounds of Brattleboro and Bellows Falls and the railways that connect them – Music for Trains is sure to delight audiences of all ages.Take in one or more concerts in the same evening
Performance Schedule
- 5:20PM – “full ride” ticket holders board the Amtrak train in Brattleboro - reservations required - arrive by 5:05 to pick up tickets, picnic dinner and custom-made Playaway
- 6PM – train arrives Bellows Falls – enjoy the outdoor farmer’s market (Friday only) and enjoy the video installation inside the Bellows Falls train depot
- 7-8PM – the “Bellows Falls Local” concert in Bellows Falls Train Depot, Depot Road, Bellows Falls
- 8:05PM – board Connecticut River Transit buses departing from the Waypoint Center, Bellows Falls for Brattleboro
- 9-10PM – the “Brattleboro Local” concert at Brattleboro Train Depot, Bridge Street, Brattleboro
- 10:15 – following the performance “full-ride” ticket holders board the Connecticut River Transit bus departing from the Transportation Center, Brattleboro arriving Waypoint Center, Bellows Falls
* We will make every effort to start the concerts according to the schedule above. We do not have control over weather and the train schedule, so we hope that audience goers will be understanding. In the event of cancellation due to severe weather, ticket buyers will be refunded for their ticket purchases.Tickets available through Green Mountain Railroad beginning June 15!
Free Concert Series – informal concerts by So Percussion
So Percussion will offer a series of concerts drawing upon their repertoire of conceptual dreamscapes by Steve Reich, Iannis Xenakis, John Cage, and preview excerpts from Music for Trains.

Finding Sounds: A percussion instrument building workshop with Ahren Ahrenholz and So Percussion
- July 19, Saturday, 11AM – 3PM at the River Gallery School, Brattleboro
- Cost $30 individuall; $55 for two in a family

Anything that vibrates can make a noise…and this workshop will allow participants to explore just where that might lead, as participants convert found objects into new noise makers. Members of the ensemble So Percussion will join Ahren Ahrenholz to facilitate the building of instruments—from simple to off-the-wall. Ahrenholz is an artist/object maker long interested in the conjunction of sculpture and sound. The ensemble, known for using household utensils and quirky objects as instruments, will spark ideas and share practical knowledge with workshop participants. The workshop will take place at the River Gallery School. Suitable for all ages; children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult.
Film Screening of Invitations and Ultimatums - created by Jenise Treuting with music by So Percussion
- July 22, Tuesday at 7PM at the Asian American Cultural Center
Jenise Treuting is in Southern Vermont collaborating with So Percussion in the making of Music for Trains. In this program at the AACC, Treuting will share her 56-minute film which takes a candid look at how Japanese people view Americans and vice-versa throgh a fascinating series of interviews in the period leading up to the Iraq War. The piece was filmed in Japanese and American towns and cities and features a soundtrack by So Percussion. Following the film, there will be a Q&A and discussion with the artist.
